How to buy a really portable and really small sound system

A friend of mine asked me what we used for a sound system recently for a very small event.  Here’s what I told him.  If you are looking for a very small and portable setup — this is ideal.

We used a Yorkville keyboard wedge monitor, dynamic mic, and an iPod for playback.
Then all you need is an 1/8″ stereo (TRS or tip ring sleeve) male to a 1/4″ mono “Y” male to plug from iPod to monitor.
A guitar amp would work fine too – just adjust the amp so it’s a “clean” sound (no distortion, overdrive, or too high of gain).  Just crank the volume.

Or if you are needing more channels, try a Fender Passport system or similar.

  1. You could also try a small acoustic amp with a channel for a mic and a channel for a guitar.
